So this was news to me! 😂

In all seriousness, heck with macros and figuring out exactly how many calories you need to eat. Have you tried this simple tip? Look at the serving size on any of the processed goodies and eat that. No, not a perfect system but I don't know how many times I've blown past the serving size. That's where so many calories add up.

According to the New York Times article by Liz Szabo in 2018, $365 million was spent by Medicare in 2016 for Vitamin D lab tests, a 5-fold increase since 2007.

I'm all for that if it results in improved health outcomes. But, what if it doesn't? What if it can be out-performed by less expensive methods? What if that money could be used elsewhere with better outcomes?

Optimizing health and longevity isn't about doing more "just in case." It's about critically assessing the methods to ensure they have utility.

We are kicking off the 8-week diet program in my M

We are kicking off the 8-week diet program in my Masterclass THIS Sunday Sept 20. If you have tried all the things and still don't have the results you want, this is the program for you. We do #800gChallenge, Lazy Macros, Macros (your specific macros!), and figure out your long-term strategy... paired with live coaching in a private Facebook group.

Oh, and it's me leading the FB group - answering questions daily and going live ~1x/week. It's not someone else nor a group without real support.

While the Masterclass has been offered on an ongoing basis, I am changing it to offer it only with live coaching. Registration closes tomorrow night (!!!) and won't reopen until the 2021 group.

Someone asked me the other day why they've heard so much about X, Y, and Z supplement if they aren't really that effective.

So, yeah.

To note, I do think there can be a time and a place for supplements (e.g., specific condition) but this is why I don't broadly recommend them. What is the problem? What are we trying to do? Is the supplement appropriate for that? Is it going to outperform other diet and lifestyle changes (this is where they really fail)? Most supplements are like saving a penny a day for retirement. Yes, technically more than nothing, but not by much.

Correlation does not equal causation! You've heard

Correlation does not equal causation! You've heard it before, I'm sure. But then when often forget it when we hear "X is associated with Y"; e.g., Vitamin D supplementation is associated with [fill in the blank] or even Meat is associated with cancer (see today's earlier post).

Again, I'm not into bashing research. Research with real live things, particularly humans, is hard, long, and expensive. (I worked with plants - they were challenging enough!) We just have to remember that each type of research (animal, association studies, controlled trials) is useful for a certain purpose. And it might not be for diet advice.
